NEW from me: With a SAG strike looming, some actors from "Orange Is the New Black" are speaking out about how they were never fairly compensated for a formative show of the streaming revolution.

July 12, 2023 - The cast were working at rates that were determined negotiated by SAG in 2009 before streaming was big and were mostly meant to cover webisodes (i.e. 5 minute exclusive content TV shows would put online only).
- Were always paid the bare minimum.
- Matt McGorry had a day job the entire time he was on the show
- Beth Dover lost money because she paid to fly herself out to film the job
- Emma Myles was paid under $900 per episode and now gets more in residuals from 2 episodes of Law & Order than she does for her entire time on the show (53 episodes)
- In 2019 Danielle Brooks was paid less than the child actors on Stranger Things.
- Kimiko Glenn says actors had to pay for their own transportation unless the call time was before 6 a.m.
- During her time on the show Diane Guerrero had to work at a bar where she was constantly recognized.
- Before Netflix went global the show was sold to cable overseas and the actors got residuals: that doesn't happen anymore.
- Actors were expected to fly themselves out for award shows. Taryn Manning said the bigger the show got the less she was compensated by the streamer for thing like makeup and outfits for red carpet events.
- Lea DeLaria said she made $20 last year in residuals.
- Writers were also screwed: Tara Herrmann an exec producer and writer said she was told 100 million people had watched at least one ep of the show. Felt like she also had not been compensated enough. Her and the showrunner were devastated.
source Netflix sucks.
