This is oddly specific but I don't see Jon Hamm convincingly cuddling a cat, whereas Ben looked pretty natural doing it.

He was pretending the cat was his coffee from Dunkin.

This is a little ot, but is this a common way to carry a cat?

It has been a hot minute since i handled one, but my instinct would have been to pick it up by its "armpits." Or if i am "cuddling" and not simply transporting a cat, i would probably prop it over my shoulder...

Is the way Affleck carrying this cat not hurt the cat's lower back?

Cats are liquid, so I don't think it's wrong. He's also about to push open the door a bit so he needed a position where he could just use one arm/hand. Fincher hass said this cat was super chill so I don't think he minded.

Depends on a cat, really. They won't let you hold them the way they don't like or are uncomfortable with. My first cat was fine with whatever position, really, she used to demonstrate some pretzel level positions when sleeping too. My friend's cat only lets us carry him as his front paws are holding onto your shoulder and you are supporting his back. Some like being carried like babies too. Basically, they just decide themselves which way you'll be subjected to carrying Their Majesty😂

They have different preferences as far as being held, but they tend to want their butt supported. If you just hold them by the armpits they get wiggly.

Depends on the cat and depends on the human and their comfort with them (going both ways).
