I dunno how I feel about this. I guess if the families gave consent, more power to them, I suppose.

I am seeing AI generated songs by dead artists pop up in my you tube page, and feels like it’s almost crossing a line.

Same. Youtube keeps recommending me an AI version of Freddie Mercury singing other famous songs. I've clicked on "stop recommending me this channel" but it doesn't work.
So creepy.

Paul, stop.
I'm a fan but there's enough Beatles material out there.

Hhm I think there are very specific use cases where applying this type of technology can be good, like say in a biopic about a singer where they'd need the audio to sound like it was recorded yesterday or to get the voice of the actor to sound more like the person they're portraying - the illusion of authenticity is the point there because it's all part of a fiction anyway.

In cases like this where it's more about enhancing existing material and allowing it to be mixed while being transparent about how it's done and doing it with the approval of whoever held the rights to that demo tape, I guess that's not necessarily unethical. Or at least not any more or less ethical than the general murkiness of releasing material from an artist posthumously.

Using the recordings from dead artists to train AI though and creating entire new songs 'in their voice' for profit or shits and giggles is ghoulish and reminds me of that Hayao Miyazaki quote where people showed him a demo of AI animation and he was like "this is an insult to life itself".

I’m a bit torn on this, but generally excited. They’re extracting John’s voice, so it’s a bit different. And it’s going to be “Now and Then”!

AI really scares me, but I think this will inevitably be the future now.

Yeah, I feel like some people are really misunderstanding what is happening here - they are just cleaning up the existing recording using AI, not making a new Lennon vocal with AI. I think it's nice that they'll finally be able to release it.

Yes, it’s something he’s wanted to do for decades. And him saying this will the finale Beatles record makes me think they won’t do anything more with AI in this manner
