I mean...this is really not true. He interviewed like 30 different people, including all the main cast members, for inspiration related to telling stories about divorce. Some of his own experience definitely made it into the movie, but it is not some kind of re-telling. The male character actually has a backstory more like Adam Driver's than Noah Baumbach's.
