• The 2023 Primetime Emmys are scheduled to take place on September 18. It remains to be seen whether the show will go on as planned or if Fox (the network airing this year's ceremony) will be forced to cancel the event.
• At the beginning of the strike, the WGA were advising members to suspend their awards campaigns and to refrain from participating in any official For Your Consideration events. The WGA has since relaxed those rules. SAG members have voted to authorize a strike, and if discussions between their guild and AMPTP also fail, actors will be going on strike as of June 30. It is unknown how and if SAG will also prohibit any of their members from campaigning.
• Nomination voting starts on June 15, and the Television Academy released their official 2023 ballots.
• The main
"Program" ballot features all the shows and films that were submitted for consideration for this year's awards. Funniest submission? Paramount+ submitting Teen Wolf: The Movie for consideration in the Outstanding Television Movie category.
• Abbott Elementary submitted three episodes and Succession submitted one in
their respective writing categories.
• Succession's got Drama Directing wrapped up, but Barry and The Bear seem ready to
duke it out in Directing as both shows picked their episodes well (series finale "wow" for Barry and the buzzy "Review" for The Bear). Abbott Elementary is submitting three episodes and reigning champ Ted Lasso submitted five episodes for consideration.
• The biggie: the
performer ballot. Here's some fun from the acting submissions:
• Succession submitted 19 actors for consideration.
• Poker Face submitted 23.
• Ted Lasso submitted 24.
• Fred Armisen was submitted in the guest category twice, once for Wednesday and once for Barry.
• Guillermo Del Toro and Sian Heder were both submitted for their extended cameos on Barry
• Jenna Ortega, Gwendoline Christie, and Christina Ricci were the only Wednesday actors submitted in the main category, none of the teen actors were submitted. Luis Guzman and Catherine Zeta-Jones were submitted in the guest category.
• Tawney Cypress, Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey, and Sophie Nélisse were submitted as leads for Yellowjackets.
• Tyler Posey was submitted for the Teen Wolf movie and so were the leads of the Peacock Vampire Academy series.
• Saturday Night Live submitted Austin Butler, Dave Chappelle, Brendan Gleeson, Michael B. Jordan, Travis Kelce, Steve Martin & Martin Short, Pedro Pascal, Miles Teller, Quinta Brunson, Jenna Ortega, Keke Palmer, Aubrey Plaza, Amy Schumer, Molly Shannon, and Megan Thee Stallion for consideration in the guest category.
• The Television Academy determines the number of nominations slots there are by breaking down the number of submissions in each category. This is how it all breaks down this year:
