Especially since there is a reality tv show still going on today that is much worse in many regards besides maybe killing people

That is exactly what i came in here to say. They really think they’re saying something astute when they say it, too, but as soon as I hear a person try to use “cancelled” seriously, I immediately feel they’re trying to sound relevant and sound very dated to me.

I hate to break it to these people, but your shows weren’t that edgy, controversial, or groundbreaking. With DH, it was a literally just a prime time soap. …and?

Right? Like I get having critical analysis for shows like Sex and the City and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Those shows were considered very ground breaking and progressive for their eras. And while so much of the content still holds up and entertains - a lot of it is also outdated, flawed and too white when looking with today’s lenses- not to mention how Joss ran that Buffy set.

We can and should discuss those shows’ legacies in the framework of their time and also with how it holds up compared to today’s standards - BUT who is wasting that type of discussion and thought on DW? Lol. It was just a soap that people enjoyed in its time. People may re watch and cringe at some of the material - but no one is out there writing think pieces about the show or trying to retroactively cancel the show lol. And people can still stream it.

And the people making these claims are old enough to realize that's just how life works. There's shows from the 70's that had content that wouldn't have been accepted in the 90's. Things change, and I think we're lucky things are changing in a direction of being more tolerant and less hurtful and more thoughtful on how thing may harm other groups.
