There is no excuse buying from a pet shop that often engage in the puppy mill trade.

If you need a specific breed for allergies, there are plenty of breed specific rescues out there. He has the money and resources to do this.

Sadly yes, people will buy a designer/trendy breed thinking it would be cute. Then they realize that a dog is a dog, and can’t be bothered. There is an Akita rescue around me that always has postings for adoptable dogs, because Akitas are more than just cute floofballs that are Instagram friendly.

I didn't realize there were breed specific rescues. I mean, it totally makes sense, I don't own a dog and don't have the environment so I've never looked into it but this is lowkey blowing my mind.

Yup, I see so many huskies at my local shelter.

I feel so bad for huskies, especially ones that live in warmer climates. My aunt had one years ago, and the poor thing was miserable in the summer, and would lay out in the snow all winter.

There are so many husky-specific rescues in the UK now. :( My parents rescued an older dog through one, and they're constantly trying to get them out of shelters (because they don't tend to cope well) and into foster homes.

Yep. My dog right now was a pet store dog, a poodle mix, that was given up bc his first person got pregnant and decided he was too much work.

Worked out for us, then!
