I can’t believe someone else has a similar experience. My dad had me read a novel called Illuminati when I was nine and it was some wild stuff. He didn’t (and still doesn’t) believe in the overtly racist parts of it but he wanted me to know that putting a ID chip in my wrist was bad. Really fun topic for a kid, right?

Ironically it's a second-rate secret society started by people who couldn't get into the Freemasons because they were broke.
