This was a really great read. Harold has been one of my favorite actors since I was little, so I was really excited to see him in Lost when it came out. The show really failed him. Its infuriating since they mention they knew what a get he was, and then they threw him aside for the likes of Evangeline Lily and Matthew Fox.

I do not buy Lindelhof's faux contrition, and I would like to know what he's done to make amends besides enrich his own career. Yes, he seems more aware of race now and is including it in his projects, but what has he done for the writers, actors and other staff who experienced his racism and lost career opportunities because of it?

I’ve always thought in hindsight that it was so weird that they wouldn’t just recast Walt and instead basically just blew up the whole story line. The audience was so invested in the show at the point and would have accepted a new actor quickly I think. I feel stupid for them being racist dicks being the reason never crossing my mind

There were so many ways to handle the Walt stuff and they totally did the laziest option.

Perrineau has been super talented and brave for decades. And the show just had him screaming Walt for two years.

it was a MAGIC ISLAND OF NONSENSE tell us the others did weird experiments on him that made him age like crazy! would not have cracked the top fifty dumbest things on that show!

All the convenient 'forgetting' of the most heinous statements.

Harold Perrineau is incredible and elevates everything he’s in. I loved Lost when I was a teen but looking back Harold was too good for that show, they didn’t deserve him

I'm not in any way excusing Lindelof, but I do think it's interesting that he's not the showrunner of his most recent series, just an exec producer and writer on it. I'm not sure that's contrition so much as a canny way of side-stepping this story, since he knew it was coming in some form since 2021. I also wonder if stepping away from Star Wars was related to this.

someone on r/fauxmoi linked a vulture interview with him from this year and i will say i thought he came across better in that interview than in this piece (based on interviews conducted longer ago). he came across like someone who’s genuinely reckoning with this and who has accepted that he isn’t owed forgiveness, and it did seem like not being in charge was something he did on purpose, or else that he took the occasion seriously as a way to learn from that perspective. i have no love for him and agree he isn’t owed forgiveness but it seemed to be an evolution from these interviews in a way that felt either authentic or the genuine best PR training i’ve ever seen lol. at the very least - light years away from cruse, who obviously does not give a fuck

Michael was such a popular character too - at least early on.

Also so shitty to include him in the final season but leave him out of the afterlife reunion scene entirely (and Walt too, why wasn't Walt there? He didn't do anything wrong)

The only stuff about Lost I remember is Ian Somerhalder dying. I had to Wiki Michael and he's dead? And he didn't move on like everyone else? What the fuck?

Yeah, like why did everyone meet up and reunite in the afterlife but a select few didn't get there? They were all on the same flight, they all went through some shit, and for some characters like Hurley, apparently thousands of years have passed and they're trying to tell me that Michael was still not forgiven or seen as one of them after all that time?
