Overall, this season didn't really work for me. Some of it I found extremely fun and ambitious in a way, but the pacing never stopped feeling completely off to me. Come to think of it, I don't think the first season was great pacing wise either, but it still worked better than this one. I'm not sure what the issue is - the size of the cast or the balance between the two timelines but it's just not working properly.
Also, maybe that's just me but... I feel like the studio shoot made the wilderness look so fake and it cheapened the whole vibe of the show sometimes. I understand why they couldn't film winter time on location but I kind of hope they go back to location shoots next season.
It's a show with a predominantly female cast and I will always be game for that, but I lost a bit of the hype I had for the show after the first season. I feel like their whole 5-season-plan is biting them in the ass, even though I guess you could've stretched this out even more. There was so much emphasis on the cannibalism this season, I wonder if it happened faster than they originally planned because of fan service. They could've written this way more controversial among the group but instead almost everyone was immediately on board with Snackie. I think it undercut a lot of the emotion surrounding it while in S1 there was still so much petty drama between the girls. I guess it makes sense those things would take a backseat out of hunger and exhaustion, but they still have enough energy left to create a cult... it's like a few steps between "stuck in the wilderness" and "let's eat each other" were left out. I hope next season is less surface level and delves more into character development. I like it when the plot gets bananas, but this story is kind of losing its momentum because even though so much happened this season, none of it felt thoroughly explored on a deeper level.
I also miss the realistic setting experience. You can almost feel that the wilderness this season was sitting between 4 walls. They don’t even travel to the lake anymore..
I think they were so worried about how to introduce cannibalism that it became the sole focus of the season and everything else fell by the wayside - they had to show how starved and crazy the girls were so we could stay sympathetic with them and that overtook any other storyline they could’ve had. Now that the cannibal shoe has dropped I think we can get back to stretching our legs more with the wilderness timeline.
Also hard agree on the winter stuff; I’m so excited for them to get back out into the wilderness for spring/summer!

Anyway. I will keep watching.

No she's the one they eat first. Her name was Jackie, hence Snackie.
