What a dumb reason. She clearly said his life as an actor. We all know he's had some iconic roles and characters. We can't just erase the movies we've seen him in before we knew he was trash.

She wasn't simply talking about talent, though. She's moreso talking about the roles he plays, that resonate with people, and are emulated.

As much as I hate Depp (OG hater from long before 2016) the only actors I can think of with those types of careers are he or Gary Oldman, and....yeah.

They could have mentioned someone like Viola Davis, Cait Blanchett or Meryl Streep--all equally dexterous in their role choices.

I just think she wasn't being very considerate, honestly. It was a poorly thought-out statement and deserves the criticism.

I don't even disagree with you, though...I think any positive commentary on Depp should be seen as a taboo (but it's not and won't be, because people who didn't actually follow the trial don't know any of the facts and just "accept" that she lied and he was "innocent")

BUT, I do think, as misguided as her response was, he is pretty much the only performer to fit what she was trying to convey. PERHAPS Oldman, but he's accused of abuse as well. MAYBE Jim Carrey, but that's taboo because he did some weird shit and is antivax.
