"I am just a guy with a guitar who loves writing music for people to enjoy. I am not and will never allow myself to be a piggy bank for anyone to shake. Having to be in New York for this trial has meant that I have missed being with my family at my grandmother's funeral." pic.twitter.com/rwOe4cxIQQ

I know he doesn't have many fans on ONTD but if he had lost this case, it would've had huge ramifications for the entire songwriting industry. Good for him, those chords are so universally used!

Yeah that was my issue - what was next, someone going after anyone who did a four chord song? I still dislike him though.

Love Axis of Awesome, they even had to chime in about the other Marvin Gaye estate/writers lawsuit!

Yes, ITA. This is a good thing.

Exactly. If he had lost, that would be a terrible precedent.

It reminds me of all the other lawsuits, I think Katy lost the Dark Horse one and Skrillex won his, I remember watching him explain how he made the song.

Not the OP, but it was the Justin Bieber song "Sorry". Also Katy Perry won her appeal.

SORRY but we didnt steal this 🙏🏻 @justinbieber @bloodpop pic.twitter.com/9897j9sfY7

I can separate my dislike for his music from the legal ramifications of this case. I'm glad he won!

Yeah, I often feel like I see posts about a song being copied and I don't think it sounds the same. There's only x-number of notes in the world anyway.

Yeah, it’s always like “watch this. They sound the same!” They have to slow it down, take the top track off so you can just hear the bottom melody or whatever the fuck it’s called, and it’s like, girl come on. You had to basically change the song to hear it???

Yeah, I think someone once said it here, or there was even an article that suggested that at some point, music will be unoriginal (if it hasn't already) because in some way or form, everything is universally used like you said and because there will be samples used intentionally or not, like unintentional plagiarism where you create something not even knowing something else already exists.
