h'mm saw polite society and really loved it, but, reading the synopsis for what's love got to do with it: i hope arranged marriage movies aren't the main stories we get about pakistani people and studios will greenlight other things.

I'm on the fence about Polite Society. I feel like it could be hilarious or cringe and I can't decide if I should see it.

What's love got to do with it had typical white saviour nonsense, and Emma Thompson's character was so racist but we're meant to find it "funny". It's a no from me dawg.

not surprising - esp with the documentary angle. and oh yikes! very weird that the part was written for her.

Yeah, I was surprised she took it! But then again what else should I have expected from a white middle-class British woman.

I was so, so deeply disappointed in What's Love Got to Do With It. It felt like a slap in the face of Muskim/pakistani culture, esp for those born and raised in the West. The ending ... just kinda pushed both aspects aside and portrayed it as unworkable and too complicated. I hated it, and it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I don't know why I was expecting something decent - just had high hopes probably bc Jemimah Khan was a producer.

hard no from me.

As the previous commenters, I was also very disappointed in What's Love Got to Do With It. It was bad.
