Tituss Burgess appeared on Marc Maron's podcast earlier this week (you can listen to the entire episode here). While discussing spirituality, he said, "God is trans, at the very least. To call him a 'he' is so boring. I get it though. We have to give it its moment and not drive past it. It’s important. It’s something I have to readjust and I still [sometimes] say 'he.' But when I do, why would you make God so small?"
Maron asked if he ever struggled with his sexuality due to his religious beliefs. Tituss said, "No. Other folks had a problem, not me. It was y’all motherfuckers. I knew who I was worshipping. I knew who I was praising. I knew who I was praying to. I was questioning who y’all were talking to. Because that wasn’t the same being."
He said that God can be a mother, a father, a sister, a brother, cats, a dog, the air, whatever, and that using that logic, "If God is a shapeshifter then God is transforming. If God is transforming then energy is transmuting. If energy is transmuting then God is trans. You do the math. It’s so easy. Don’t get caught up in the language."
Jane Krakowski said that the stage directions for her courtroom solo "Bells and Whistles" originally said her entrance was on a trapeze. She asked if she could learn some trapeze tricks to add to the number. Showrunner Cinco Paul gave her the okay, but she had only a week before filming the scene. Her suggestions for S3's title: Schmondheim (an all-Sondheim show), Schment, or Schpring Awakening.
Tituss and Jane, who costarred on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, will be reuniting again this summer in Center of the YOUniverse. The show will be directed by Tony winning choreographer Christopher Gattelli (he also choreographed both seasons of Schmigadoon).
