In February, Carey surprised Broadway fans at New York's Shubert Theatre when she appeared onstage to applaud the cast
The multi-talented Mariah Carey continues to be honored in new ways. On Tuesday, she received her first Tony nomination as a producer on Some Like It Hot, a theatrical remake of the 1959 film.
The musical leads this year’s Tony nominations with 13, including best musical, best performance by a leading actor, best performance by a featured actor, best performance by a featured actress, best direction, best book, and best original score.
After joining the production last fall, Carey said, "I first became familiar with this story through the timeless film starring Marilyn Monroe. She’s been an important touchstone throughout my life, so much so that I acquired her treasured baby grand white piano at an auction. When Neil Meron shared this new take on the beloved film, I knew I had to be a part of it. To see how this show continues to expand on the film’s legacy - pushing boundaries, promoting inclusion, celebrating diversity - I’m proud to help bring Some Like It Hot for today’s world to new audiences."
Like Jennifer Hudson did last year for A Strange Loop, Carey could earn her first Tony if the show wins the top prize during the 76th annual Tony Awards.
Earlier this month, Carey’s #1 holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. The chanteuse is also headlining the LA Pride in the Park festival on June 10.
