idt anything happened during filming. she was singled out as a miscast by the press and how emma stone was the perfect choice and it got to her, which is why she dropped out of the press tour. her comments here seem to be aligning with that.

And I don't think Emma was bad? She wasn't a stand out for sure, but she wasn't bad. She was just serviceable (same as Eliza). Laura Dern was the one who was bad imo.
Flo and Saoirse were the only ones who shined.

that's what the critical consensus was at the time and that emma w's poor performance only highlighted that.

tbh i don't mind emma either. obviously not the greatest character actress. i think the problem is that she got too ambitious. she's just doesn't have the right range for the roles she went for. she just needs to dial it down and play to her strengths. i think she has decent comedic timing and could be great in rom coms etc.

I mean, what are her most famous roles? Hermione (she was kid, so I wouldn't call her ambitious there), Belle (I agree, that was a miscast for sure) and Meg (again, her performance seemed ok to me). She was fine in Perks and Noah and she was very good in The Bling Ring. Can't speak on her other roles because I haven't seen her other movies.
Other than Belle, I don't see her being "too ambitious". There are a lot of mediocre people out there getting roles, Emma is just one more.

I didn’t mean ambitious in terms of mainstream/high profile roles but in terms of scope of her acting abilities. She went for roles that are completely outside her acting range. Props to her agents who managed to secure those gigs but in the long run it did not serve her well.

Wasn't she the original choice for La la Land too? Emma S went on to win an Oscar and it was essentially people saying Emma W would've never won for that part (which is definitely true, but you know, harsh if she's paying attention to online buzz).
