Ooh hope you enjoy Sweeney! Can't wait for the Broadway cast recording for the new production.

Me too! We're seeing the show May 18 so if the recordings come out my husband and I are back and forth about whether we listen beforehand or wait lol

I wouldn't, honestly. Let Josh Groban's soaring voice be a surprise. I have been listening to the OBC on repeat since seeing the show and the music is similar enough that it won't be a rude awakening. The style of singing is also very close for many characters, really honors the original cast. (It isn't like with Hadestown where I am glad I listened to the OBC in advance so the big changes from the original recording weren't so jarring).

But also since they didn't announce a release date when they first broke the news a week or so ago I suspect it will be after May 18.

What impressed me most while seeing it is that it honestly felt like I was listening to a studio recording, their voices were so pitch perfect. Compared to Parade where it was all a bit rougher and not as strong singing as the OBC.

I have only listened to one short clip of Josh (singing "My Friends") and Annaleigh (singing "The Worst Pies in London") and they both sound amazing. First thing I thought was that they are evoking Len and Angela but not overly so, which makes me so happy because the OBC >>> the movie! IDK much about the 2005 Broadway revival though.

Oh man I saw a Hadestown touring version in December and hadn't listened beforehand, and while it was such a cool production it was not my jam. But my husband is a musician/former band nerd and loved it. I appreciated it but I wanted more story. It's definitely a musical for musicians, which I respect.

I'm so excited for Sweeney! Where were your seats? We are in front mezzanine, near the center, row C! I hope you're right that the soundtrack will be released later so I'm not tempted lolol

Ah I do love Hadestown! I felt it wasn't lacking story to the extent of some musicals (like Six), but for me good music is always the biggest consideration anyway. (Like how often I feel compelled to listen to the OBC haha).

And I was in like middle mezzanine, around the middle? Mezzanine is good, you will be able to get a good view of the actions on all the levels and of the cool lighting design. Enjoy!

wait - there's such good comedic bits that are better off to experience on stage!!! ugh enjoy - I was on top of it and was able to get normal priced tickets during previews that are now in the 200-500s but I want to go back and see it so badly

I will wait! Y'all convinced me.

I paid $500 for two tickets in front mezz and I regret nothing, though I prob could've gotten them for $100-$200 cheaper if SOMEBODY (see: my husband) had made up his mind earlier about whether we could afford to go (we can't, doing it anyway, #YOLO)

I won the lottery and saw it front row this weekend for $30. Josh Groban spat on me. It was great.

Ah my strategy for finding affordable seats a month or so out was to just go by myself, lmao. When I looked for a single ticket instead of two together the available seat prices dropped hundreds of dollars. Luckily my husband wasn't interested in it!

& Juliet is so fun, glad to see it getting so many noms! It’s coming to my city next year, I’m excited to see it again and probably take my nieces.

Jealous! It's not part of my season package next year but maybe the following year...

My friend saw it in NYC in March and loved it so much!
