“I am sorry for being careless with my words.”

April 23, 2023 - Meghan Trainor has a podcast with her brother and had Trisha Paytas on as a guest.
- While discussing school shootings and bulletproof backpacks, Trisha and Meghan agreed homeschooling was the only option for their children.
- The drama starts at 0:10 - 14 in the video below:
Hearing
@Meghan_Trainor talk dismissively about public schools is so disappointing. So many students have to go to public school because they don’t have the money or accessibility for private school or homeschooling. Teachers are superheroes doing the best for their kids.

April 23, 2023 Meghan: We're homeschooling our kids -
Trisha: [interrupts] Same! I think everyone should -
Meghan: [interrupts] Fuck that!
Trisha: Yeah...
Meghan: [continues] Everyone on TikTok, they're like, "This is what it's like to have a kid in school in America; I have a bulletproof backpack." I was like, fuck all that. [sassy grunt] Unh-uh!
Trisha: Yeah, but also, kids can be mean...
Meghan: [interrupts] Bullying...
Trisha: [continues] Teachers... [stutters] T-that was my trauma -
Meghan: [interrupts] Teachers! Fuck teachers, dude!
- Teachers on TikTok were understandably angered by Meghan's flippant remarks, and the clip from the podcast soon went viral.
- Meghan reacted to the backlash by recording a video addressed to those she offended:

OP edit: I misread Us Weekly's recap, so I've added the video and written an accurate transcription for it lol
Teachers of TikTok and teachers of the world: I recently said, "F teachers," on the podcast, and it's not how I feel. I was fired up because we were talking about how sending your kid to school - here in America - is so horrific. And what all of us have to go through, especially teachers is not normal and not okay. I had Trisha Paytas on the podcast and I knew her history with her teachers, and I knew my husband's history with his teachers, and I was bullied by some teachers. So in that moment, I got angry and said, "F teachers", F those specific human beings back in the day. But I did not mean that to all teachers. I love teachers, I fight for teachers, I think they have the hardest job and they are the most underpaid. They're the most unappreciated when they literally raise all of us. I don't want to make excuses - I am just so sorry. I'm so sorry to any teachers who I made feel bad. And I will remind myself that my words definitely could have a consequence, and I will be more careful. Love you all so much. So sorry again. Thank you all for helping me [smooches at the camera] Mwah!
