I always hated that saying too. Things happen due to choices or coincidences (which usually come from choices of others that impact you lol) but there is no spirit in the sky with marionettes controlling your every decision or what does/doesn’t happen to you.

Now I always did sort of get behind the sentiment that roles ultimately end up where they’re supposed to go - I.E. Annette Benning was originally cast as Catwoman but had to back out thus Michelle Pfeiffer came on board. I can’t imagine anyone else doing that role so perfectly. But let’s be real that sentiment only exists because we never got to see the alternative to make up our mind about it lol. Plus sometimes roles do get tailored or changed to the compliment the strengths of the actress/actor once final casting decisions are made.

Those movies are terrible and you can't change my mind. She's had a much better career in my opinion.

yesss i completely agree. incredibly toxic media tbh, I'd probably be happy to not be associated with it either. plus it's not like she doesn't stay booked and busy otherwise

Damn, she'd have nailed it and her Bridget would probably have been way more likeable (no shade to Renee, but I find her Bridget annoying as fuck, I just wanted to punch her most of the time).

Seeing pictures from Briget Jones today and remembering she was supposed be a fat woman continues to be a TRIP.

As much as I really disliked Bridget's constant weight/dress size tracking in the book, the thing it did do was make it clear to readers that Bridget's obsession with her supposed fatness was pure insecurity talking.

Whereas on film that message just doesn't translate at all. She calls herself fat and the movie/other characters accept that premise.

I love these movies (even the sequels idc) but I would love to peek into that multiverse where Toni took the role
