The above user is partly right. That figure is substantiated in the Archewell tax filings, which as I understand it can be requested through the IRS Form 990 or something similar (I’m not American so unsure of the exact process). Usually these statements are made publicly available, but apparently the IRS has a backlog.
However, the figure has either been a) wilfully misinterpreted by the Daily Fail or b) is the result of an entertainment/news journalist writing about finance. The DF don’t really have subeditors anymore (decent ones anyway) so even if they weren’t being obtuse it’s unlikely this would’ve been fact checked.
Anyway, as far as I know it’s standard practise for a not-for-profit to list, for tax purposes, that their board works one hour a month, as the majority of board members are voluntary/unpaid. This does not reflect the actual hours worked (though that depends on the board lol)
Though this article is still not great. Eg: they’re querying the Archewell consultants fees being over $100,000, when that’s pretty standard for an NFP with revenue over $10 million to spend on legal fees (esp. when dealing with grants etc.) and an independent tax audit. But anyway.
Ding, ding, ding. At my old nonprofit, one of my coworkers / friends was also on the board, and for tax reasons he also "worked" doing board stuff for about an hour a week. In reality he was doing shit for them all the time, it just overlapped with his general day-to-day shit.

I found a Marie Claire breakdown which explains it: https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/royals/prince-harry-meghan-markle-2021-archewell-tax-documents/
