So I have OCD but also have had a couple counselors ask if I'd ever been evaluated for autism. I've looked up autism in adult women online, and some of the lists seem like they could fit anyone, autistic or not. Does anyone have any good resources that I could look at?

A word of caution - a lot of these questions, they use in official screenings more to gauge your reaction to the questions than your actual answer. So it is far from perfect.

Thank you, that's helpful to know! I found a lot of them too rigid to accurately describe my experience so I wonder if that is part of it.

I'm mostly just curious anyway- I have wondered if I might be autistic for awhile, and brought it up to my current therapist when I started seeing her. At first she was like, there's no way, but now that she has treated me for awhile she said, well, actually...it's possible. But I don't think there's much use in pursuing an adult diagnosis since I know it's expensive and won't change much. I'm just interested, I guess. It might help me make sense of certain parts of myself.

Before I was diagnosed, I went about researching autism and coping skills that help with its many struggles and that made a significant difference for me. Even if you don't seek out a dx, I can definitely recommend looking into the symptoms and how to manage with them just to see if it helps, and even if you aren't autistic, these things that make life easier are worth knowing and learning.

Oh wow. After I took this, I hopped over to the CAT-Q test about masking and literally almost got the maximum score lmao.

Welp, wish you all the luck on your journey lmao

I was extremely high masking & one thing I wish I knew is (if you decide to go this route!) to put of starting any diagnostic process for a longgg time. When I did my evaluation I still barely knew who I was without masking so even fooled the evaluator a good bit which was definitely not helpful to the process🫠

Lol thank you! That's really useful to hear. I don't think I've even like... thought about who I might be without the masking haha. I saw one of your other comments about feeling empathy/compassion yet having a hard time showing it, and that really resonated with me too. So thank you for educating ONTD about this!!
