March 23, 2023 Starting in the late 80's, the duo shared a bank account in order to fund auditions and start their acting careers. Damon calls it “a weird thing in retrospect” but they needed the money for auditions.
“We were going to help each other and be there for each other,” Affleck said. “It was like, ‘You’re not going to be alone. I’m not going to be alone. Let’s go out there and do this together.’” Damon added: “As long as one of us had money we knew the power wasn’t going to get shut off."
Anytime either of them booked a role, the money would go into the shared account. They had three rules for the account:
1. They were allowed to go to auditions in New York with the money.
2. They were allowed to take out $10 and go to the arcade.
3. Buy beer.
Rule number 3 never worked.
