Victoria Alonso was fired from her position at Marvel Studios for currently unknown reasons

The decision was made by Alan Bergman & whilst Kevin Feige was not involved in the process, he ultimately did not intervene to prevent her termination.

So was she a scapegoat for Feige's failures then? I think they would have realized by now people are Marveled out.

Marvel releases used to be an event but when there is an event every month it gets old fast. It's like going on vacation constantly- even vacations can get old.

Idk, on the one hand losing a woman in such prominent position at one of the most successful studios, especially a LGBTQ Latina, feels wrong. Otoh, if the reports are true about her fostering a toxic environment, especially for the VFX people, who have been very overworked and severely underpaid then it's a good step to maybe correct stuff. We'll see, I guess. Still shitty she was blindsided tho.

I don't think she's a WoC btw.

I came to ask about if she was a POC. I know Latinos as an ethnicity are usually distinguished apart from their racial identity in US statistics but I don’t think that makes white Latinos POC. She’s def white-passing at the very least.

she's fully white. this is like anya taylor joy being described as a WOC because her father is scottish-argentine.

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the fact that American media outlets consistency struggle A LOT with understanding that latino is an ethnicity not a race, and it's telling that they seem to only be able to relate to other people in terms of how different they are from them. Someone being Latino doesn't have the added difference to a white American reporter of having a different skin colour than them, and yet they've made that mistake a lot of times. It's incredibly strange. Sorry if I can't explain it correctly, but it's like... it's like they have a checkbox in their minds of how many degrees of otherness they can identify someone else as, in relation to themselves.

Sadly, women in those C level positions are often as bad as the men. So yay, they could have her photo on branding, but for any people working for her, it may have been just as awful

that has been my experience so far unfortunately.
