March 14, 2023 Citadel, the upcoming Amazon Prime spy drama from the Russo Brothers, has received a season 2 renewal a month before the April 28th premiere of its first season. The show stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra. Amazon reportedly hopes to turn the show into a franchise.
THR shares that the show's budget began at $160 million before original showrunner Josh Appelbaum and director Brian Kirk left the project. They were replaced by David Weil, the showrunner of the recently concluded Prime series Hunters. Reshoots added $75 million to the budget, meaning it cost well over $200 million to make. It is on track to be the second most expensive show ever made, after Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
