Tbh his son is obviously better off with that couple and it would feel cruel to run back and grab him now. But I could see the show exploring the son “going bad”.

the actress has been good in everything else i've seen her in - call the midwife, ghosts, dr who and feel good - and was also pretty charming on Taskmaster so i wonder if it was just a badly written character and lack of chemistry with Penn

yes! i only saw her on taskmaster, but she was so sweet and such a cutie, i was rooting for her the whole time
i thought making her coldhearted to the extreme was the wrong choice

I think she was cast against type -- she's great in comedy. They wanted an icy Kristen Scott Thomas type and sort of folded her to meet that mold but it didn't work.
