As someone who is has ADHD and doesn't medication for it, I agree. Cold brew is how I survive and (barely) make it through the day!

Hard same lol…I’m literally bedbound and still drink a Red Bull everyday. Already pay $300/month for my kids meds, caffeine it is for me!

300 bucks a month for medication is fucking depressing and so wrong. At least Red Bull is cheaper!

Right?! And because they’re a minor we have to pay a psychiatrist (who absolutely sucks but there’s not a ton of children psychs to choose from) $150/month just to write the prescription.

All of this with ‘good’ healthcare! It all feels like a scam somehow😭

When I went to a psychiatrist none accepted my insurance (except ones with a 6+ month waiting list), in a semi-major American city in a metro area of 2 million people, it was $90 just to talk for 5 minutes and to get a slip of paper. And the process to do a reimbursement from my insurance was too cumbersome, I ended up in a hell of a lot of credit card debt to get my meds that made me gain 50 lb over 3 years. Ah American healthcare...

Lmao same. I was so shocked the first time I met someone who said green tea had too much caffeine for them. Meanwhile I was on my second energy drink of the morning 💀

I just got formally diagnosed with ADHD (inattentive type) literally just yesterday by my psychiatrist. I've been seeing her since August to find a regimen that would stick for what I thought was just anxiety and depression, and it makes so much sense. Caffeine would do nothing for me for as long as I can remember. I would get the largest Dunkin Donuts lattes in undergrad. I would drink 2-3 cups of green tea, sometimes 2 cups of black tea for night classes. During grad school, I would drink homemade Nescafe and even 5-Hour Energy (all-nighters for papers or studying), and I would still go to sleep. I told my colleagues at work and even my psychiatrist, "I'm sorry, but I'm ALWAYS tired. I wish I had something as strong as coke. Not that I would do it, but I feel like my body needs it."

Congrats on your diagnosis! I hope you figure out what helps you manage a bit better

Thanks, it just makes so much sense. I used to swing here and there if I was experiencing symptoms of bipolar 2 disorder, giftedness, even borderline personality disorder because SO MANY symptoms overlap. I definitely have anxiety and moderate depression that's been more manageable with an SSRI ( ... )

Gonna be honest, your first paragraph sounds exactly like my path to discovering I’m Autistic (and ADHD but that one’s undiagnosed bc I just don’t care at this point). Most of those things are commonly diagnosis given to women when in fact it’s Autism which is commonly comorbid with ADHD. But those aren’t really things that overlap with ADHD on its own so much if that makes sense. Just sharing some things from the other side of a late ND diagnosis, definitely not trying to diagnose you or anything💗

And I hear you on the Vyvanse! Spend $450 a month to have it prescribed & filled for my kid each month, it hurts each time!!

Edited to add that a lot of mental health professionals know nothing about ASD due to the research being all based on pre-pubescent white cis boys. Therapists and such are likely not going to catch it.
