tbh I find making gifs a pain in the ass. I used to for one of my older anime tumblrs and I got sick of it quickly. Maybe I was doing it badly? But to snip frames, to get it the right size, to make sure it's not pixilated, then adjusting colors, etc etc. It's just too much work for me. I'll let others do it. (though I do hate how fandom tumblrs seem to be putting their usernames on the gifs again. I just find it overkill and dramatic and hypocritical how people whine about people taking their gifs but they are technically stealing from shows for the gifs.)

Oh, man, I don't blame you! I tried making gifs at one point a few years ago and found it so stressful for all the reasons you mentioned. (I was making a ship gif with two characters from two different shows. That was a bucket of fun!) I commend people who do it on the regular, but it's not something I like.

I hate the watermarks because I like to use the gifs and the text on it that isn't dialogue ruins it for me lol.

Oh geez mashing up pictures/frames on one gif is so hard. tbh I don't see it as often anymore. Just people make different gifs but they may switch the dialogue for the characters in the set. And I forgot the joy of actually getting the right video moment is so much fun.

Yes! One creator I saw put their username right on the edge of the persons face. Like, god if you're that paranoid or upset about someone using your gifs you should probably stop. I know it's a long process but it feels so over the top to do that.

I appreciate gif-ers but watermarking them seems a bit much. I guess people would want credit if it became a big meme, but let’s be real - so many I see are of the exact same take from the original scene. I enjoy making my own to set aside for the perfect moment to catch a friend off guard via text/IM, heh

I don't ever see gif-ers becoming a meme anymore. It's just mostly screencaps. So I don't get the paranoia over it.
