does he know what drama he started all over the internet with his "no more sex scenes" comment?

Idk I’m ok with it. Too many people confuse intimacy with sex often times. A lot of cis, straight men think if you don’t have sex you’re not interested. I wish that weren’t the case because there is plenty to do without the fear of getting pregnant.

Or the fact that pretty much most things made for adults or even teens, usually has to have sex scenes or nudity. It’s almost always filmed in a male gaze as well.

Sex is a part of life but I feel like the entertainment industry makes it SO important that it’s all a lot of people can think about now.

I just think it was a nothingburger. Man just said he doesn't want to do sex scenes anymore because they don't work for him and people were big mad. He wasn't even making a general statement about sex scenes in media, just how they feel for him. Like, who cares?

i think saying these scenes feel like infidelity to him is fucking weird tbh

It doesn't track for me but that's not my business, IMO. His feelings on doing sex scenes have nothing to do with the sexlessness of mainstream movies or the pathology of the modern man. People were doing entirely too much when he's just one B-list actor saying he doesn't want to make out with anyone but his wife. And I'm being flippant because I believe he specifically mentioned 'intimacy scenes.' So really, he doesn't want to simulate sex on camera anymore.

i think they're two separate convos tbh

i think an actor saying that intimate scenes feel like infidelity to him but he can still simulate murder is wild af lol

They are, but they're being mashed together for some dumb reason.

I mean, yes and no. Penn as Joe isn't actually killing someone but Penn as Joe is actually kissing/caressing another person. I know those scenes are highly choreographed but if they no longer make him comfortable then I don't see what the problem is! Also, who knows, he might feel like never taking a role as a murderer after this stint on You especially considering he's been pretty adamant about people not romanticizing Joe.

sure, he's not actively stabbing someone but its about the same level of simulation when he's like trying to choke a woman out in the show. idk i think he's within his rights to not do whatever he wants and i support that completely! but i do think he was kind of telling on himself a bit when he mentioned infidelity.

why is it weird? if he were in any other profession but acting, people wouldn't be so understanding about making out with anyone other than your spouse

because he's playing the role of a serial killer and the thing that makes him uncomfortable is fake sex? and i also feel like he's telling us he can't turn off his emotions while filming those scenes

how many actors have become serial killers after playing a serial killer in a movie?

how many actors have hooked up with co-stars during the filming of a project?

if those are his boundaries, those are his boundaries. if you're an accountant and someone told you to kiss your colleague, i highly doubt your spouse would be ok with it too

being an accountant is not being an actor lmao this false equivalence is weird. a person is going to cheat if they want to regardless of their career and i find it insulting to his female costars that they now have to deal with the burden of knowing that their interactions made him think of infidelity.

and i know we were all freaking out about johnny depp’s treatment of amber when it came to her roles, and this to me is in that same line of control and thinking just on a less extreme scale

he can have all the boundaries he wants, i’m going to find it weird if he equates the choreography of kissing his costar in a room of people to infidelity

OK, I thought we were somewhat on the same page but bringing up Depp in this instance seems a bit much. Did you read the feature on Penn in Variety where he talks about this? It's pretty clear there that he has never liked these intimate scenes, and that is separate from his marriage. Also, given the story he shared about being a 12-year old actor on a film titled 'The Fluffer,' seems the discomfort emerged pretty early. Having re-read that feature, I have even more of a charitable read on his feelings.

literally the only thing i’ve seen was his comments from the podcast where he talked about his marriage and infidelity. and i used depp as an extreme example but talking about your spouse when it comes to sex scenes, it’s a good connection

if this stems from some experience from when he was a kid then that’s entirely different but that’s not what he said at all on the podcast

What the hell are you talking about? Most things don't have sex scenes or nudity in them. We're in one of the most sexless eras.
