When they aired something on this movie during the Super Bowl, it was a little bit different cut, and for the first half of it, I thought it was just a really elaborate parody commercial for a new pair of shoes.

Anyway, I'm kind of interested. Never knew they made the shoe before Jordan was really even a star.

Yeah that part was surprising. They started it in his first year with the Bulls!

Phil Knight (founder) actually offered Magic Johnson stock five years before they went to Jordan! They couldn’t pay him though only offered stock options and a percentage of sales, so Magic went to Converse who offered $100K outright and annually for every year he was still in contract with them!

Turning them down cost Magic 5 billion!

Jordan had people talking when he was still in high school, and colleges were fighting over him. He played for the University of North Carolina for three years before jumping into the NBA, and he got lot of attention and was a star player in the college circuit - he got the Nike deal in his junior year of college, I think.

LeBron also had multiple shoe companies after him when he was still in high school, I think Reebok offered him $100 million before he was even drafted into the NBA. He ended up taking a "lesser" ($90 million) deal with Nike, partially because Jordon was his idol.

I can't think of anything I would have been that good at in high school that would have led anyone to want to give me millions of dollars for a product deal lmao.

I seriously thought this was an SNL parody when I saw it on the Super Bowl.

As I said in my comment on the Tetris post, enough with the [men] making [product] movies.

I'm so tired of these capitalist success story dramas. Oh cool a guy had a good idea (Nike) / stole a good idea (The Founder) / faced off against a business rival (Ford v Ferrari), who cares. It feels so empty and soulless to have middle-aged rich white businessmen be presented as David v Goliath stories. Why are these all attempts at Oscar bait suddenly? Enough!

I’m trying to think whether I would find this interesting if it were other people and not Ben and Matt, and I’m still not sure.

So now we’ll have both AIR & Plane as single-word movie titles this year!

I find it so weird that Michael Jordan doesn't really appear to truly be a character in the movie, at least according to the trailer.

Bizarre.

“I think we should do a biopic. You know Michael Jordan, one of the greatest basketball players of all time?”

“Yeah?”

“Let’s make a movie about the white men who made his famous shoes. Quick, get me Ben Affleck for this Michael Jordan film.” 🥴

“Will we at least put his name in the title?”

“Mmmmm. I like AIR actually. It’s cleaner.”

It's truly so fucking bizarre! I wonder if Michael blocked them, or they didn't have his right of on something! Because the only time 'Michael' seems to appear is from behind!
