going through this list i'm annoyed again that judd hirsch got the nom over paul dano who deserved it by miles. the old academy members always eat up a short chew-scenery performance by one of their peers rather than an actually good nuanced performance and it annoys me almost every year

I thought Dano was gonna get in with Hirsch but instead they went for a double Supporting nom for Banshees. Hirsch just had that “five minute performance from a veteran actor” thing that the Academy loves.

I’m honestly starting to wonder if they just have an anti-Dano thing in general, like he should’ve won or at least gotten in for There Will Be Blood!

i fucking hate that shit, very rarely is it awards worthy (rare exceptions include viola davis in doubt) and just feels like a glorified cameo

this and Taron getting overlooked for Rocketman makes Rami Malek's win for that caricature performance of Freddie Mercury even more awful in hindsight. Austin's nom is lowkey balancing the scales there but not nearly enough to make up for the other two snubs.

I'd completely forgotten that Judd Hirsch was in the Fablemans until I heard he got nominated. Even now I couldn’t tell you who he played (a distant relative?) or anything significant about his performance.
