Celebrities including F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, EGOT winner Viola Davis and many more reacted to devastating earthquake that happened in Southeast Turkey on Feb 6, 2023.

(edit: William & Kate of the British Royal Family also supported a campaign in the UK that aims to provide relief to the region. More celebs added.)

the situation in Syria is extremely diffilcut, the areas affected are held by rebels, NGOs could hardly reach them even before the earthquake. just awful.

And the government demands that if other countries want to help they have to go through the government which is corrupt and murderous. Syria has had tragedy after tragedy for years now.

Well in Syria they are trying to use human suffering as leverage to drop sanctions on the ruling elite so they can buy more mansions and sports cars. Erdogan is a similar but different story.

We opened the southern border so NGOs could go but that didn't help out a lot. That may be the only wise decision of our government during this whole thing.

Everything I've heard about what's going on in Syria re: the earthquake is so extra depressing. Almost no one able to get through to aid during the golden window. International governments not sending aid (for understandable reasons but it's still heartbreaking and frustrating).

I mean it's not understandable to not lift the sanctions in a situation like this. It's incredibly sickening.
