Asking from genuine ignorance: is there a history behind it? I've always heard it synonymous with goosebumps and I don't wanna use it if there's a problem with it.

Maybe it’s more her using it, but I don’t think white people who only lived in Hawai’i a couple years should throw around pidgin.

I didn't know it was exclusive to Hawaii until today... I've used it heard to also describe keratosis pilaris, too

I'm not defending this toe at all, but her long-term partner speaks pidgin so I'm assuming she's picked it up from him.

Oh I didn’t know about that usage in Hawaii and pidgin. I sometimes say chicken skin because it’s a literal translation of it from Spanish and I grew up in Spain. So I occasionally throw out weird Spanglishisms

oh interesting, i didn't know it had that context. i've heard it from appalachian/southern family, to mean something like goosebumps or goose pimples if you're cold or nervous/anxious or taken aback by something.
