She’s right and she should say it. I used to work with someone who commented that she was glad her teenage daughter was pretty, because she wasn’t smart, and you apparently can’t be both (according to her). It made me sad that the whole pretty or smart, but not both are standards of measurements for women.

"At least she's cute, haa haa!" is still way too common.

Great that a girl's own mother is saying shit like this

A cousin of mine is currently pregnant and was disappointed to find out she's having a girl because, "girls are so difficult and expensive... hopefully she's at least pretty". Her mum and boyfriend openly expressed disappointment too. The poor kid hasn't even been born yet and is already having to deal with gendered bullshit from her family. It's just really upsetting, especially when it's coming from women.

I used to have a friend that would say this too. That she only wanted girls because of this and that reason. All I hear is people saying “I don’t have to try hard enough to raise boys.” As someone who works with kids, boys have most of the behavioral issues…

Violence and the repression of emotions is so normalized among boys that I don't see how that could be easier

my life’s mission is gonna be to put an end to the “girls are so difficult” bullshit that people love to parrot. the worst brats that i’ve ever witnessed/dealt with have all been BOYS. me included!
girls are conditioned from birth basically to be angels so i truly don’t get it

People's fixations on looks is truly ridiculous. At a recent family gathering people were commenting on children from somebody's school and said things like: she's not very cute/pretty, that jawline is not very flattering.

These girls and boys are like 10. And then peole wonder why kids have body image issues.

She was in Dogma in 1999, in a comedic role. I guess she's as bored with her own career as everyone else is.
