i understand that the positioning of MTV is that drag race was always going to be an hour and that this real friends show didn't take away or cut into the expected 90 min drag race runtime, but i also do not believe them :)

From what I understand the move to MTV was decided after the season had already been filmed with 90 minute episodes in mind. It's probably true that MTV always wanted the episodes to be an hour, but the season was definitely not filmed that way.
