Isn't giving a diabetes medication to a non diabetic person dangerous???
Seems like a very irresponsible doctor.

Ozempic in higher doses is marketed as Wegovy which is a weight loss drug

No, off label use is common. For example, I have PCOS and the only thing that started my menstrual cycles and helped me lose some weight for a while was Metformin, a diabetic drug.

Just curious though, do you also have insulin resistance? Because the majority of people with PCOS have insulin resistance so to me it makes sense that you would be prescribed Metformin to help bring down your blood sugar overall.

In theory, PCOS mimics insulin resistance and my A1C is in the mildly prediabetic range but it always has been in the range. However, while Metformin helped restore my menstrual cycles, my A1C didn't budge at all - even when I lost close to 70 pounds and was nearly normal weight. I stopped taking it many years ago and while my A1C has gone up a tiny bit, I also put most of the weight back on so the medication seems like it wasn't a factor in affecting my insulin resistance by any measurable effect.

Interestingly, my cycles haven't yet stopped again and I haven't taken metformin in probably close to 10 years and since I'm old enough for menopause, I was actually helping they WOULD stop. Because they are absolute hell.

I'm on metformin and it hasn't helped my menstrual cycles much at all. I'm still not regular although with dietary changes I'm having more periods than before. I feel like my A1C keeps going up and down in the prediabetic range. Every time I start to get it down then it starts to creep up again. It's so frustrating that my body just can't use its own insulin properly.

medications can have different uses. beta blockers are used for heart attacks and heart health, but could also be used for anxiety. benzos are anxiety meds but can also be used for seizures. etc
