Jesus, large machinery is scary. I wonder if they are gonna end up making any safety modifications to the vehicles to prevent future incidents like this.
What?! You always use the emergency brake! A car is a weapon when not properly secured. The emergency break is there for emergencies bc you can't tell when a heavy machine will malfunction. It's very unsafe.
Yeah, I use my emergency brake when parked in a way the car might slide, on an incline and I feel that's what I was taught in driver's ed in the US. I can't imagine I would ever engage it when the car is on level, flat ground.
I learned to drive on a stick shift so I ALWAYS use the emergency brake (even almost ten years since I last drove a stick shift) because it's so important to secure the car...it boggles my mind that so many of my friends don't use them.
I’m in the US and we weren’t taught in driver’s Ed to always use the brake. But my dad drilled it into me and my siblings’ heads and now I always use. And especially so after Anton Yelchin’s horrific death.
This is such poor driving practice that it would literally have you fail your driving test in many parts of the world (though it seems like Americans aren't taught to do it).
I always notice in US tv shows/movies when they park and the car sways/rolls slightly. As others have said, in the UK you always use the handbreak, I drive an automatic and still use it every time I park.

Boggles my mind that people don't engage their handbrake before they exit the vehicle.
I've only seen this once when I was showing a US tourist around Auckland. And they'd stopped on a hill.
