The point is no one cared. Even when Patty Jenkins got the Wonder Woman director role people here were gushing because of what she did with 'Monster'. No one acted outraged that someone who directed a film about a serial killer was doing it. They only turned on her because they didn't like WW84.

(And fwiw no I don't think Charlize Theron is a bad person for playing a serial killer or Patty Jenkins for directing a film about one. I think it's a non-issue.)
