Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting Sue Paramount Over Nude Scene

The then-teenage stars of 1968's "Romeo and Juliet" claim they were told there'd be no nudity in the film, but in the final days of shooting, the director allegedly implored them to perform in the nude with body makeup, “or the Picture would fail.” https://t.co/dxRJcI4ccC

And to think my 9th grade teacher would only let us watch this version because she thought the 1996 one was the indecent one. WHO’S LAUGHING NOW?!

(In all seriousness this is awful, I hope they win and that they’re both OK)

Teachers are so clueless sometimes. I remember how our teacher didn't want to take us to see Titanic bc they were having sex but once suggested we watch Eyes Wide Shut. LMAO She clearly didn't know anything about the movie, just that it was Stanley Kubrick.

I hope it wasn’t a film-class teacher because the fact that it’s a Kubrick movie should’ve been enough lmao

No, she was our polish teacher and wanted us to watch something by an accomplished filmmaker but didn't realize what the movie was about. LOL

Mixture of WTF and Yes, lets watch this!

We were 14, so we were very open to seeing naked people on a screen. haha

I've been wanting to get into Kubrick lately since any screen cap I've seen of his movies look stunning..the ones I want to watch are Barry Lyndon and 2001, but as someone who's never seen any of his films...which of his films are the greatest starting point? Do I just watch the 2 I want? Or do I start from the beginning and work my way to the end? This wouldn't be hard as he didn't make many movies. Also do I just blind buy some of his blu rays or do I set out on the seven seas and watch them on my phone as a test run?

I would just watch the ones you want & then keep going after that if you like what you see. Barry Lyndon is my favorite.

Don't watch on your phone; part of why Kubrick is celebrated is the cinematography/composition of shots. You need a big screen and good quality video otherwise there's no point. But you can probably rent them on YT or borrow the DVDs/blurays from a local library.

Otherwise, just watch whichever ones you want. If you like them, maybe you'll want to check out the rest/start again from the beginning of his career. There's every chance you won't enjoy some of the films though: I love the Shining, for eg, but couldn't stand Eye Wide Shut. I appreciated the artistry of A Clockwork Orange, but it's about a pretty hateable character and isn't exactly a pleasant ride.

there's nothing wrong with just watching the two films you want to see, but if you want to take a look at his whole filmography, Dr. Strangelove is the best starting point and then just watching everything released after that. Spartacus is okay, and James Mason's work in Lolita is great imo, but i don't think they're 100% essential to his filmography

Barry Lyndon and 2001 are good starting points.
I personally love his aesthetics and movies, however a lot of his subject matter will not be for everyone and yes watch it on a TV screen in a dark room. I'd like to give some love to The Killing which I saw last year and I thought it was very well made.

You can't pirate on a laptop? You gotta pirate on a phone?

I haven't had a laptop in years. Lmao

I usually just watch movies on my TV (or phone to see if i like it then buy the blu ray to watch on my TV).
