Good 4 u

But at the same time, Poland has had terrible politics regarding LGBTQIA+ for years so why take the job in the first place?

I think you might overestimate how informed the general public are on current events

It just shows that most people (not just celebrities) are not well informed on world news, even if it relates to issues they seem to care about.

especially when it comes to countries anywhere east of Berlin (and even then, Germany gets far less international traction than it used to)

Poland's trash record on LGBT rights has only started making international news recently and even then, the coverage is not super widespread. I don't think most people even realize that Poland has one of the most right wing governments in Europe.

yeah, i'm deep into war twitter and people who probably couldn't even find ukraine on a map last year are praising thepolish government for their stance on russia and that they are the new true leaders in the eu and i'm just like "do you know anything about their domestic politics?"

Meanwhile refugees are still stuck in the woods on the border with Belarus and either face death or deportation.

Wasn’t there a legitimate concern that Ukrainian women fleeing the war were not able to get an abortion if they had been raped by Russian soldiers???

You probably heard about Ordo Iuris who was trying all they could to stop Ukrainian women from getting an abortion.

This organization is truly vile, I hate them so much.

I think I saw it briefly on the news here but hadn't seen anything since. But that's vile. How horrific for those poor women.

On top of possibly being uninformed about Poland’s politics, I also wonder how quickly celebrities are informed about their schedules by their management or booking person or whatever, like I assume Mel C is big enough that she’s not personally booking her shows by herself, so maybe she got her monthly itinerary and saw Poland and was like ‘uh, wtf? no.’.

Edit: I also didn’t read the post until after commenting, so like I didn’t see what she had said lol, so idk Mel probably also just doesn’t read shit and had to have someone else tell her ‘uh, wtf? No’

The broadcaster only announced her involvement on Friday, so her reaction was quick but it does sound like she didn't know anything about the issues before.

idk there's also a difference with booking a concert in Poland, or Hungary or wherever with similar politics and actively being involved in a state-organised event, which this is. it's not impossible to me that she or her team just didn't quite realise what this was.

Yeah, maybe that’s what she means by some issues came to light, like they thought it was just a normal concert thing and found out it was a government related thing.
