I still have to catch her version. I'm hoping to see a bunch of shows the next few weeks -- I have been slacking the past few months and have only seen 2 shows since June!

Unpopular opinion, didn't really care for Hadestown

I got into Hadestown early on, long before it was brought to Broadway, and it's extra petty of me but the changes made from the earlier version of the show to Broadway kind of ruined it for me a bit. I know every show has to evolve at least a little, but I'm not particularly fond of the current version of the show and I still default to the NYTW cast recording every time I want to listen to it.

Oh, interesting! I didn't know there was a different recording - I am going to check it out. Yeah, I was so excited because I had tried forever to win lottery tickets and i ended up just BUYING them even and i honestly didnt really enjoy it all that much. i also hate the guy playing orpheus and i know hes the OG guy but damn he was awful to me

I saw it on tour in DC and I was like…this is the show everyone was so hyped about? This beat Beetlejuice for lighting and set design?

I was very hesitant to see Beetlejuice, but I actually really really really loved Beetlejuice and the set is incredible. It definitely had some Act II problems and lost some steam there, but I truly truly enjoyed that show and I’m sad it’s closing. I still listen to the cast recording a lot

I was adamantly against BJ when it premiered here in DC (did we really need yet another musical adaptation of a movie?) but I gave it a chance during quarantine and have seen the remounted production 3 times since it reopened. It’s one of the rare movie to musical adaptations that not only improves upon the source material but actively embraces the medium of theater instead of just being like “hey this thing happened in the movie!”

Also Alex Brightman is a GIFT and should have won the Tony over Santino Fontana and that is my villain origin story.

Did you see Hadestown on Broadway?

And was it the storyline that you didn't like or like the overall?

Yes, I saw it on Broadway! I think it was more overall. I didn’t mind the story, I was interested in the whole Orpheus and Eurydice retelling. However, to be fair, I don’t really like sung through musicals. I mean funnily enough, come from away is one of my favorite musicals, and that is like 90% sung through. But in general I don’t care for them, so Hadestown is already a little bit of a stretch for me. But I felt like the set wasn’t that great I wasn’t really into the way the story was told, I hated the guy who played Orpheus. I saw it with the understudy for Eurydice so I can’t say anything about the original cast of her, but the understudy was lovely. It just really was some thing that I was bored through much of. The night I went, they were also definitely having mixing issues, because we had a lot of difficulty making out what they were saying in a lot of the parts of the show. I went with my boss and another colleague, and my boss is from Germany originally, and at intermission she asked me if she was missing things because of ( ... )

I'm not the biggest fan of Hadestown but I'm still sorry you saw such a terrible version and were bored of it!! I think you must have just seen them on an off night because I saw the touring cast and was blown away. I felt like the set especially was like INSANE - especially as we make way to Hadestown and the way the walls separate and you feel lie you're being lowered INTO the Drum Barrel. UGH incredible. I was in literal tears at that point ( ... )

Someone was trying to argue with me that Hadestown was better than the Company revival and that was when I knew he had terrible taste.
