Jamie Spears is still trying it, defends conservatorship to The Sun

Dec 19, 2022 15:37

Jamie Spears spoke to Daphne Barak for The Sun newpaper, defending the 13 year long conservatorship that controlled his daughter Britney Spears. Britney has alleged amongst other things that the conservatorship was abusive, her bedroom was monitored, and that she was made to undergo an IUD insertion without her consent. Barak is the same journalist who spoke to Kevin Federline and Britney's sons for an ITV News/60 minutes special back in September.

I saved Britney's life - she could have died, says dad Jamie Spears https://t.co/Wf3XedVJ9u

OP has taken some anti-nausea meds and made a one off exception to her boycott of that snot rag (better known as 'The Scum' and famed for its disgusting coverage of the Hillsborough tragedy) to let ONTD know what Daddy Dearest has to say for himself.

  • Says that without the conservatorship "I don’t know if she would be alive now," she wouldn't have got her children back without it, and that his main purpose was to get her her kids back. Calls it a "great tool."
  • Defends his decisions saying they were all made in conjunction with a “group of very good people.”
  • Says the kids never missed any of their allotted time with Britney. OP: the article doesn't really contextualise this comment, but seems likely a reference to the allegations that threats to keep her from the kids were used as a coercive control tactic
  • Claims it fixed her finances. (Context: Britney's lawyer Matthew Rosengart has been investigating claims that the conservatorship misappropriated Britney's funds.)
  • In response to questions about whether the regime went on too long, he asks “Did YOU see her behaviour for the last year of her conservatorship?”
  • Says he knows the media and fan discussion is "all lies" and he's being careful to avoid doing anything to affect her mental health. OP: it's a Herculean effort to repeat that second part without sarcasm, but I got my B- on the ONTD University Objectivitiy In Journalism course
  • Has not seen his grandsons since 2019, after he was served with a restraining order following an alleged physical altercation with one of them
  • Calls the family a "mess" and says his primary goal is to fix it and bring everyone back together
  • Barak in a separate sub-article gives her own viewpoint, suggests that though Britney's vulnerable people wrongly assume she's clueless and she's savvier than given credit for. Believes Kevin and his wife have done their best in the circumstances. Doesn't come to a conclusion on Jamie either way, just says there are valid questions to be asked.

OP: It's the high level denial you would expect from him. Doesn't go anywhere near the specific of Britney's allegations, claims he loves her and was only doing the best for her. Notable that this is the same journo who gave K-Fed a very sympathetic lens, though she does challenge Jamie with Jayden's suggestion that it went on too long and in her secondary opinion piece she says there are still questions to be asked. Unclear whether she asked any of them herself, but my inference from it all is she doesn't necessarily buy Jamie's story.
