Adele discussed mental health during her December 9 Las Vegas residency performance, telling concertgoers she is pursuing therapy again after feeling she had "lost the plot."
"I went a few years not having it," she recalled. "I needed to start. Before, obviously, when I was going through my divorce, I was basically having five therapy sessions a day." The singer has previously spoken about needing therapy following her "traumatic" separation from Simon Konecki.
She continued, "I stopped holding myself accountable for my own behavior and the things I would say. But now I am doing it because I just want to make sure I'm topping myself up every week to make sure I can give you everything."
Rumor has it the 34-year-old needed this additional round of therapy after reading online comments that have not been particularly forgiving for rescheduling her shows and other issues that have left fans at odds with the once universally beloved star.
The singer-songwriter also admitted to performance anxiety and perfectionism. "My whole therapy session this week was really interesting," she said. "It was about these shows. I always get so emotional. I love making music, but there is something about performing live that actually terrifies me and fills me with dread. I have always put a massive pressure on myself that everything has to be perfect, perfect."
At another night's show, Adele described another way she is staying grounded: "Guess what I’ve started doing? I’ve started hiking. I really like it. I put my headphones on and get on with it.”
