Yesterday was emotional and &our 1st day. The girls walking onto the set for the first time was like watching history being made. We all held hands and the whole crew did too. then… I watched them become Galinda & Elphaba in front of my eyes. I cant wait for u all to see it too

Usually there are like camera tests/HMU tests leading up to the first day of filming and you want to do those during a filming week so you aren't paying an extra week on the gear.

I sure hope Wicked: The Musical: The Movie was doing HMU tests long before the first week of filming.

I appreciate this answer, but I still think it's a bad scheduling move to start at the end of the week. I also think it's a bad idea to start a feature so close to the holiday break, but whatever. I work in TV so I know how scheduling works and all the factors that go into it. I don't know all the details so I can only guess, but I'd believe they were delayed and had to start shooting sooner than I would believe they chose to start on a Thursday on purpose.

I specifically mean HMU test on camera, under the stage lights. So tweaks can be made if needed before wasting a day of filming. Yes, earlier HMU tests and probably SFX MU tests would have been done prior.

It's also good for crew morale to start later in the week. It gives the crew a day or two at the beginning of the week to move in their gear and get ready... it's good to ease into the project, give them an early weekend, start on stage with easy scenes. usually with fewer set pieces in case the art department is in their final push of finishing projects. Especially on a long haul project like this. I have never started filming on a tv show or movie that started before Wednesday.
