Reese Witherspoon is set to reprise her role as go-getter Tracy Flick in Tracy Flick Can't Win, a sequel to the cult classic 1999 comedy Election. Alexander Payne is also returning as director and co-writer along with Jim Taylor (with whom he wrote the first movie).
Based on Tom Perrotta's 1998 novel of the same name, Election follows Tracy Flick, an ambitious Type-A high school student whose social studies teacher (Matthew Broderick) attempts to sabotage her campaign to become student body president. The sequel, based on Tom Perrotta's follow-up novel published earlier this year, is another satirical dark comedy that picks up with Tracy in adulthood as she continues struggling to fight her way to the top.
Witherspoon will produce the film with Lauren Neustadter under their Hello Sunshine banner, along with Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa of Bona Fide Productions (Election, Little Miss Sunshine). Perrotta is executive producing. Tracy Flick Can't Win will debut on Paramount+.
SOURCE beyond thrilled about this as a fan of both books and the '99 movie tbh!!!
