In some cases it's fine, they build off the legacy and add in their own flare. In this case it just looks like his father could have directed it, there are so many similarities and not as much growing past that. But idk.

In this particular case I think baby Cronenberg is trying very hard to be even gorier and edgier than his dad, but the stories in his movies are worse.
