What is wrong with adopting, someone please tell me? I know there are mental health issues that could possibly be a factor, but so can your bio children.

Side note, her child looks like an identical light skin version of Taye. Jesus.

I was shocked to find out how many here seem to be anti-adoption. It doesn’t make sense imo. Where would we be without adoption? It may not be a perfect system, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t necessary or often a wonderful thing.

no one thinks that adoption should never happen. but the idea that adoption is some wonderful thing is just wrong. adoption is inherently traumatic. we know that. private adoptions are especially bad. there is a reason that studies show that open adoptions are the best for the children. because even tho we want to say its not, biology does matter to most people.

the very large majority of babies are placed for private adoptions because of money. we could create a social safety net so that mothers could parent their own children.

and how many kids are adopted through foster care that got there through a really terrible system that was not in their or the bio parents best interest? a lot!

But afaik, no one here has ever claimed that adoption is without it’s problems. It absolutely has it’s own problems. That doesn’t change the fact that there are over 400,000 children in the care system in the US, who aren’t going anywhere fast. It doesn’t help when posters here have discussed the “issues” that some adopted children have, without presenting all of the relevant facts too.

well there are two different types of adoption. private and through the system ( ... )

I was using the number for adoption and fostering, so I should’ve made that clear in my previous post. I was including the possibility of fostering children in my discussion.

I was referring to a recent post where this discussion was had, and half facts were presented with no real explanation. It made the argument seem very one-sided and unfair.

Probably because people were discussing other options when ivf doesn’t work and despite adoption not being perfect at all, it’s still something people can think about doing. For all we know, Idina and her husband did think about it anyway.

question -- do you know any agencies off the top of your head that actually are reputable, since you seem to be a lot more educated than me! i ask because my bff is going through the process of adoption with his husband and now i'm worried/curious about what type of agency they are using. it is not a private adoption, they're looking to adopt a child who is "in the system" already. They want to foster to adopt, but are also doing temp fostering - i.e. a child needs a home for a few weeks while they finish the reunification plan with his family, so they are going to foster him until that time. it seems like a legit place but now i want to also make sure he did his research

i dont- i do advocacy work on the adoptee side and dont have any real knowledge of agencies to recommend one. also adoption is so state specific they would need advice from someone locally

that makes sense, i appreciate the response! I’m in a different state than him, too, but let me see what research i can do and if i can find him someone local to talk to. thank you!

a million things are wrong with private adoption, tbh.

its too much to write up but we shouldnt view adoption as a way for infertile people to 'get' babies. it should be a very last resort that is in the best interest of the baby. the fact that we have created a system in which people pay $50,000 to poor women for their baby is fucked up. the number 1 reason girls/women give their baby up for adoption is money.
