Taiwanese actress, Barbie Hsu, sued her ex husband, Chinese millionaire, Wang Xiaofei, over owed alimony, which prompted him to post on Weibo how he has been paying for all expenses of her and her now new husband, Korean singer DJ Koo, including utilities, mortgage and even the over $200,000 Hästens mattress that they previously shared as a couple ( Drake also has one by the same brand), causing mockery to the actress on social media. “It’s one thing if someone else is living there, but can you, dipshit, switch out the mattress?” Wang commented.
In retaliation, Hsu hired 2 movers to put the mattress on the entrance of one of the hotels owned by Xiaofei and proceeded to set it on fire right on the curb. This prompted the Swedish brand itself to issue a statement to prove that mattress was a fake one, since apart from the astronomical price tag, their mattresses are known for being incombustible. But eagle eyed social media users noticed that the burnt mattress was actually from another way cheaper brand.
With this even gaining geo-political undertones since the children are staying in Taiwan and Wang writing that his “Beijing” children should not be raised by Hsu and her mother, and with him even being accused of having an affair with Chinese actress Zhang Yingying while still married to Hsu.
Ultimately, the winner was Wang’s mother who used this scandal to promote and sell over $6 million dollars in products through her social media.
