On the season finale of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver discuses a few of the reasons that FIFA should not have been awarded the World Cup to Qatar including:

• rumors that some of the officials who voted for Qatar to host each received $1 million bribes
• journalists being harassed/threatened
• the weather which is so hot that the World Cup was moved to

I've seen a lot of white people using some quote about European countries having their own set of issues, alleging that being against this World Cup is racist.

What has been fascinating is the people I see defending Qatar as the location aren't people who care about soccer.

We can agree on both. The Qatar WC is problematic and a lot of people against this World Cup are racist and Islamophobic.
