Nathan come back to competition! The men’s field is so lackluster this year he wouldn’t even have to do 6 quad free skate to podium lol I also think Yuzu has to be a little bit wanting to pull a Tom Brady and un retire seeing their current men’s season so far. At least we’re gonna get a mini Jason Brown comeback

Yeah the men’s field is pretty meh right now. But I feel like that’s kinda standard for a post Olympic season.

yuzuru and nathan being done and yuma being injured has made mens unwatchable, tbh. not a single musical accent is being hit at these competitions, it's painful

Nah, I'm glad Yuzuru's retired - why come back to a sport that doesn't appreciate him? He knows it, he's said it himself. He's thriving right now doing his solo show and I'm happy for him.

The field is pretty empty but there are some other great male skaters - Junhwan Cha, Sota Yamamoto, Adam Siao Him Fa, Kevin Aymoz all come to my mind. And they're far more "artistic" than Nathan ever was, I'd take their skating over endless quads any day!

idk how much more competitive skating yuzuru's ankle could have taken, tbh. and for diminishing returns scores-wise. he absolutely could keep going and still be fighting for medals if he really wanted to but i don't blame him at all for wanting to focus on his shows.

Also true! As a huge fan, I'd rather see him retire and skate in shows for many years to come than to struggle with his injuries. I'm glad he knew when to quit, many professional athletes don't.

Jeez, why is nobody mentioning Ilia? First skater to ever complete a quad axel? That kid has been on fire.

the 4a is undoubtedly incredible but virtually every other aspect of his skating is pretty painful to watch tbh

Yeah, I agree, the 4a is absolutely incredible and he needs to be applauded for pulling it off but god, the rest of his skating is just ... not good. No transitions, no choreography, it's just a jump fest. Fans are allowed to like it but it's nowhere near my preferences.

kudos to him for doing the damn thing, it's an incredible jump (and tbh the rest of his jumps are very good too! not just the 4a) but i personally look for more in a program

Meh, agree to disagree. That is skating for you lol! Lots of subjectivity. He's very young and has a lot of room to grow artistically, but I like his skating as a whole.

Also hurts that Yuma is injured but I haven't followed the grand prix season at all. Is Shoma the fave for worlds? The women's side must also feels diff with no Russians but I prefer not to see starved 16 year olds win everything.

either shoma or ilia is the fave for worlds at this point. shoma is obvi the defending champ and he is getting higher component scores but he has never been the most consistent. ilia has bonkers technical content but his components scores are nowhere near what shoma's are.

we'll see if yuma can get back for worlds, if he's healthy he can't be written off imo, at his best i think he is the class of the current field
