Normally cast recordings are made with the original cast (traditionally they are recorded the Monday after a show opens on Broadway), but this is not the first time a cast recording has been made with replacement cast members. A few examples under the cut (full list at
the source)
Grease (1994 Broadway revival)
The original revival cast included Rosie O'Donnell as Rizzo, Megan Mullally as Marty, and Billy Porter as Teen Angel who were all featured on the original cast recording. During the show’s run, the producers consistently brought celebrities into the cast (including Linda Blair, Debby Boone, Chubby Checker, Dominique Dawes, Micky Dolenz, Sheena Easton, Debbie Gibson, Jasmine Guy, Al Jarreau, Lucy Lawless, Darlene Love, Maureen McCormick, Joe Piscopo, Mackenzie Phillips, and Jon Secada). Brooke Shields’ run as Rizzo was so popular that the producers had her record all of Rizzo's songs and they released a new version of the cast recording with her versions replacing Rosie O'Donnell's. You be the judge!

Hello, Dolly! (1967)
Carol Channing famously starred in the original 1964 Broadway production. In 1967, an all-Black touring company featuring Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway was so successful that the producers replaced the entire Broadway cast with the tour cast and had them record a new cast album.
Kiss of the Spider Woman (1994)
Kiss of the Spider Woman opened on the West End in 1992 starring Chita Rivera, Brent Carver, and Anthony Crivello. When the show transferred to Broadway in 1993, Chita, Brent, and Anthony came with it and each of them won a Tony Award for their performance in the show. When the original cast left in 1994, Vanessa Williams, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Howard McGillin replaced them. Critics said the show was even better with the replacement cast which led to a new cast recording with the three replacements.
